Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Incan Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A lovely ceremonial textile fan composed of tightly-woven camelid (llama or alpaca wool) fibers in hues of crimson, fuchsia, magenta, espresso, beige, gold, and cream. A thick curved handle is decorated with a repeating register of concentric diamond motifs, and a corded handle with a fur-wrapped top projects from the upper corners. The fan component is comprised of dozens of individually twisted tassels secured to the bottom of the tumi-shaped handle with gold-colored thread. A wonderful and intriguing ceremonial example! Size: 11" W x 19.5" H (27.9 cm x 49.5 cm).
