Pre-Columbian, northwestern Peru, ca. 1200 CE. Delightful pottery pacha vessel - used in performing rituals to "guarantee" the success of the harvest by pouring sacred liquids from the spout of the vessel to areas of the field. In the form of a prone jaguar with front legs outstretched beneath his (as shown by distinct male genitalia) head, rear legs curled to the sides. Body wonderfully painted in polychrome shades of red, black, and tan with checkerboard pattern across length of its back. A rare and delightful example. Size: 12.75" L x 5.5" W (32.4 cm x 14 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
