Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A pottery vessel in the form of a rectangular cuboid topped with a male figure lying on his side and playing a pan pipe as a sizable, flared spout rises from his waist. Gazing out from heavy-lidded eyes as though in a trance, the fascinating figure wears a conical, helmet-like headdress and belted underwear. His egg-shaped body features a recessed navel and attenuated limbs with his legs folded up and both hands holding the 3-chambered pan pipe to his thin mouth. Liberal remains of negative resist decoration adorn the lower left side of the vessel. Size: 10.3" W x 10.5" H (26.2 cm x 26.7 cm)
