Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1438 to 1533 CE. A fine example of a hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel featuring the portrait of a distinguished individual. The vessel rests upon a slightly convex yet stable base and has its 'body' comprised of the human head with coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a petite nose, protruding ears, and thin lips, all beneath a simple cap. Areas of white pigment around the visage outline and accentuate the carefully detailed features. The top of the hat bears a gently tapered cylindrical spout with a flared rim. A lovely vessel bearing attractive portraiture! Size: 5.2" W x 6.8" H (13.2 cm x 17.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired September 16, 2009; ex-Arte Xibalba, Osprey, Florida, USA; ex-Andrea Sarmiento collection, Miami, Florida, USA
