Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Inca, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A beautiful example of Inca textile leg armor, the rectangular form shaped from thirteen slender wooden rods which are bound with tightly-woven natural cotton fibers in hues of espresso, vermilion, wheat, and cream. The panel displays an expanding diamond motif, and short remains of the attachment cords are present on each side of the armor. Mounted on a fabric stretcher atop a wooden frame. Size (textile): 4.25" W x 9.25" H (10.8 cm x 23.5 cm); size (frame): 10.9" W x 14" H (27.7 cm x 35.6 cm).
