Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A polychrome terracotta stirrup vessel with a seated figure at one end of the stirrup and a body in the shape of a rectangular prism. The figure sits with bent knees and holds one hand to the chest and the other to the mouth, as if dancing or perhaps ingesting a hallucinogenic substance like coca. He wears a black shirt and a bas relief headband. His visage appears as if engaged in a trance with wide open almond-shaped eyes staring straight ahead. The red vessel body is decorated with a wide cream-hued stripe, and wonderful deposits grace the surface. Size: 4.875" L x 3.25" W x 7.5" H (12.4 cm x 8.3 cm x 19 cm)
