Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Inca, ca. 1200 to 1520 CE. A beautiful utilitarian axe head, hand-carved from a single piece of sage-green stone with beige and black inclusions. A slender handle projects outwards from the back of the blade with a pair of incised bands and a flat butt end. The axe portion is comprised of a crescent-shaped head with a sharp edge and one curved face. Typical Incan axes are T-shaped - with a bi-pronged handle and a thin, centralized blade; however, this example is quite the opposite with a thin handle and branching blade. A rare and fascinating example from the ancient Incan Empire! Size: 4.375" L x 3.8" W (11.1 cm x 9.7 cm).
