Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1400 to 1533 CE. An impressive pottery vessel featuring a highly burnished blackware finish on an aryballos form, with a corseted lower section on a flat bottom and side loop handles. Beyond this attractive form, the piece is adorned with a pair of panels - one depicting a repeated stylized Inca cross motif flanked by jagged borders, the other with a textile-inspired dotted checkerboard pattern surrounded by two vertical registers of stylized Greek key patterns. A fabulous Inca aryballos that displays Chimu stylistic influences, this vessel was most likely created by a Chimu artisan who had been captured by the Inca. A beautiful piece with a rich history! Size: 7" W x 7.25" H (17.8 cm x 18.4 cm); 8" H (20.3 cm) on included custom stand.
