Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. This uniquely-shaped jar has two connected bowls topped by two litter-bearing figures; one of their heads forms the spout. The litter carries a bundle which is most likely a mummified figure. High ranking Inca mummies enjoyed great status, often being brought out to ceremonies; the mummies of emperors even had attendants who would serve them food during feasts. A pot like this one could have been used for chicha, a fermented corn beer. Size: 3" W x 6" H.

Provenance: Ex-private T. Misenhimer Collection, Hollywood, CA.
