Pre-Columbian, central highlands of Peru, Inca culture, ca. 1350 to 1500 CE. A playful blackware double-lobed whistling stirrup jar, its surface highly burnished to a silver sheen. Atop one lobe is a spout with a wide mouth, connected to the other lobe by a broad, near-flat strap handle. Atop the other lobe, perched on the spout, is a figure of a crouching monkey with a delightful face. Size: 7.9" W x 7.05" H (20.1 cm x 17.9 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in 1968 to 1970
