Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Incan Empire, ca. 1470 to 1532 CE. A squat axe head with a large handle and broad blade face, hand-carved from a jet-black basalt and polished to a reflective sheen. The ovoid handle has a recessed groove delineating it from the blade. The blade has a more-pronounced ovoid form, with two large seamless faces and an arching, acutely-angled edge running along the top. Typical Incan axe heads have a bi-pronged handle and a thin central axe head projecting between, making this is a rare and beautiful example! Size: 2.75" W x 2.5" H (7 cm x 6.4 cm).
