Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Proto-Nazca culture, ca. 100 BCE. Beautiful and vibrant tie-dyed textile dating prior to the emergence of the Nazca culture in southern Peru. Comprised of dyed cotton fibers - twelve panels arranged in checkerboard pattern - six in red and gold, three in green and cream, and three in purple, red and cream - each utilizing a diamond-shaped motif. Peru stands out for its tradition of fabric art in which tie-dyes play a central role. Most common are those made in the tie-dye technique, in which the textile is knotted and tied before it is dyed, so that when it is untied, there are negative images of diamonds, squared, and concentric dots. Mounted and ready to hang. Measures ~ 34 1/2"L x 30 1/2"W - Textile itself 32"L x 27"W
