Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central Coast, Chimu culture, ca. 900 to 1300 CE. A large textile panel comprised of finely woven camelid fibers in shades of melon red, gold, blush pink, beige, and white. The composition features three wide registers separated by bold red bands, each register presenting anthropomorphic and/or zoomorphic figures, and on the lower end a generous fringe of that same fuchsia color emerging from a band of creamy beige hues. The textile is professionally matted and framed, the frame featuring an inner section of burled wood veneer and the flat surrounding presenting a narrow decorative band of design motifs resembling marquetry.
