Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Moche culture, Moche I/II, ca. 200 to 400 CE. One of my favorite forms of Moche pottery! Large jar in the form of a domesticated llama. He is shown with realistic face with large almond-shaped eyes, pert ears and realistic facial features. He carries a large "burden sack" over its back. The harness and burden sack are both painted in added yellow/white pigment. Size: 13" L x 7.5" W x 9.75" H (33 cm x 19 cm x 24.8 cm)
