Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Inca, ca. 1200 to 1520 CE. A large and hefty cylindrical stone mace head, hand-carved from a mottled beige stone, perhaps diorite, with dark inclusions. This example is carved into a typical "doughnut" form with a tapered central hole to accept a wooden shaft, and a shallow incised band adorns each opening. Beautiful to behold and lethal in the right hands! Size: 2.5" Diameter x 2" H (6.4 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased from Artemis Gallery, March 27, 2018, lot 63; ex-private Tacoma, Washington, USA collection, purportedly found in Colombia
