Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful jar of an elegant form, hand-carved from honey-yellow alabaster with integral bands of a darker color that illuminate when exposed to bright light. The jar has a flat base, a tall, apple-shaped body, a rounded shoulder that tapers inward to form the corseted neck, and a flared rim that surrounds the mouth. The interior cavity is drilled out using a series of progressively finer bits as well as copious amounts of abrasive sand, and traces of the original drill marks are still visible along the interior walls and bottom. Size: 5.5" W x 6" H (14 cm x 15.2 cm)
