Description:

First Nations, Northwestern Canada, Inuit, ca. late 20th century CE. A large hand-carved soapstone hunter and seal sculpture. The man in a hooded parka squats atop the back of stacked seals, the bottom seal seems to be freshly caught, and the hunter is pulling its head upward with a noose around the animal's neck, and another seal is slung over his shoulder. The base is initialed in Inuit syllabics and signed with a disc number for an unknown artist. Size: 12" L x 3.25" W x 9.5" H (30.5 cm x 8.3 cm x 24.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
