Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Middle Sepik River region, Iatmul people, ca. 20th century CE. A sizable wooden mask of convex form exhibiting dark brown surface hues and expressive facial features. The circular eyes are encircled with petite triangular cutouts and inlaid with cowrie snail shells while the remainder of the obverse surface area shows remains of red-orange pigment. Size: 4.5" L x 14" W x 34.5" H (11.4 cm x 35.6 cm x 87.6 cm)
