Guerrero / Mezcala, Mexico, Ca 500 to 100 BCE. An exceptional and very important set of four stone monkeys, carved from various hardstones. First is a large example carved of green and white stone shown in jumping pose. Next is mottled green/black stone with very long tail, shown seated. Final two are smaller versions one in mottled green stone the other in jet black, each shown squatting. Largest measures 2-7/8" H and 2-1/4" L. Smallest is 1-1/8" H. All come with custom stand. Compare these to lot 15, Sotheby's Collection Barbier-Mueller, March 22, 2013 with a hammer price of 16250 Euro - for a single example. Provenance: Ex-prominent Hollywood Emmy-Award Winning Director, acquired at Sotheby's NYC auction. The starting price is the lowest price at which this item can sell.
