Description:

Greece, Cycladic culture, Bronze Age, ca. 1600 BCE. A gorgeously-preserved bronze sword with a long, thin blade, a raised central ridge, and slightly indented shoulders. An ovoid guard with three relief ridges around its exterior rests at the junction of blade and tang. The pommel is partially lost, but what remains has a geometric, angular form. Bronze weapons like this one would have been used by the elite warriors of ancient Aegean Bronze Age polities like Crete and those on the Greek mainland. This was the age that is described in the Iliad and Odyssey. Size: 2.1" W x 23" H (5.3 cm x 58.4 cm); 24.25" H (61.6 cm) on included custom stand.

#136974

  • Condition: Edge has some small losses, and there is some pitting/scratching on the blade commensurate with age, but form is nicely preserved. Blade may have been reattached to handle but if so the repair is very well done and almost impossible to see. Guard is present as is part of the pommel.
