East Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. Large gilded bronze statue depicting Padmasambhava, also referred to as Guru Rinpoche in Tibet, thought to be among the most important masters who brought Buddhism to Tibet during the 8th century, dressed in an elaborate headdress and voluminous robes that are meticulously decorated with engraved floral motifs. Padmasambhava is shown holding a vajra/dorje in his right hand and an auspicious offering or perhaps a flask of amrit (divine nectar) in his left hand. In addition, he is bedecked with jewels, wearing a grand necklace and sizable jewel-encrusted ear ornaments. A magnificent gilded bronze statue of Padmasambhava, depicting the Buddhist master who gracefully sits in a half lotus pose upon a beautiful lotus pedestal. Gilding quality: 32% gold.
