Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Ica culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A mesmerizing terracotta with a compact globular body, a slender tubular spout, and an accenting strap handle. Its exterior is painted in a vibrant linear motif with abstract symbols. The repeating design has been painted in red, black, and cream-colored slip. The pattern includes repeated depictions of step pyramids, crosses, diamonds, and the sun in a symmetrical fashion around its exterior register. It presents a refined interplay of colors, shape, and forms. Its interior cavity reveals the hues of its unembellished terracotta. Size: 5" Diameter x 4.5" H (12.7 cm x 11.4 cm)
