Description:

Pre-Columbian, south coast Peru, Ica culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of a bulbous form with a rounded base, a spherical body with flattened front and back faces, a sloped shoulder from which a pair of handles projects, and a spherical upper chamber. The highly burnished exterior is decorated with fine black and red cruciform motifs atop the beige ground and has concentric rectangular boxes of gradually expanding sizes surrounding the circular crosses. The handles and upper chamber also exhibit black and red linear motifs that create a colorful presentation. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.   • Condition: Small chips to rim of upper chamber, with light pitting in several areas, and light fading to painted decorations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to painted motifs throughout.
