Description:

Africa, Zaire, many millions of years old. A very rare and visually fascinating pillar formation stalactite of deep green malachite. Formed when water, and carbon dioxide flowed through copper rich veins usually in limestone caves. In this case thickened blobs of green copper-rich minerals oozed through a cave ceiling forming 13 distinct vertical shafts of, dare I say, phallic-shaped stalactites. Stalactites hang from ceilings and stalagmites form when puddles of minerals grow upward from cave floors. This impressive group weighs a hefty 58 pounds (26 kilos). Size: 10" W x 12" H (25.4 cm x 30.5 cm); 13" H (33 cm) on included custom Lucite stand.

Malachite was first used by modern man 10,000 years ago for jewelry and mined as early as 3500 years ago.
