Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Vera Cruz, ca. 400 to 700 CE. A mold-made pottery priestess with arms held out to sides and palms facing upwards, her face with rounded cheeks, slitted downturned eyes beneath finely arched brows, an aquiline nose, and an open mouth (suggesting prayer, singing, or chanting); wearing a wide headband, large openwork earspools, an elaborate beaded necklace, bracelets, and a sash around her waist, her textured coiffure and nipples highlighted by black bitumen, areas of red pigment remain. Liberal manganese. Size: 18.5" W x 17" H (47 cm x 43.2 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
