Description:

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast of Mexico, Veracruz (also Totonac or Totonaca), ca. 3rd to 8th century CE. A hand-built pottery head of a truly incredible size adorned with a winged headdress as well as enormous ear flares. The slender eyes are dotted with black-painted pupils, and additional black pigment accentuates the lips; the bituminous pigment is known as chapapote. Size: 5" L x 10" W x 11" H (12.7 cm x 25.4 cm x 27.9 cm)
