Ancient Near East, Parthian to Sassanian (Sasanian, Sassanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. A fabulous bronze cauldron of a sizable, round-bottomed form with a carinated body, a sloping shoulder that tapers to a corseted neck, a deep basin, and a thin rim with a pair of crescent-shaped handles. Each of the handles boasts a stamped six-petal rosette with dozens of additional hammered circles in and around the concentric circular borders, and the rim exhibits small zigzagging lines of similar stamped circles on either side. The cauldron is covered in lustrous layers of russet, espresso, and forest-green patina which imbues it with an elegant presentation. Size: 15.6" Diameter x 9" H (39.6 cm x 22.9 cm).

Provenance: ex-private A.Y. Shenas collection, Queens, New York, USA, acquired in the 1970s
