Pre-Columbian, Peru, Paracas, ca. 500 BCE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery urn of sizable form bearing a pair of incised sun faces. Each abstract visage exhibits slit-form eyes and mouth, zigzagging columns around the eyes, and a serrated collar, all surrounded by radiating solar rays. The light-brown body is smooth to the touch and was likely used in a funerary setting during burial rites. Size: 11.7" W x 14.75" H (29.7 cm x 37.5 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis by Labor Ralf Kotalla in Germany and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A pdf copy of the report will accompany the item upon purchase.
