Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya, ca. 1-400 CE. This is a very rare and finely carved tubular pale green andesite bead with raised collars carved to represent the bamboo plant. So unusually large, so smooth to the touch, so lovely in its botanical iconographic form and pale green hue. Drilled laterally, the piece may have also served as a snuff tube. Measures approximately 11"L (28 cm) x 3/4"D (2 cm). It has a beautiful patina. Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #102528
