Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, central highlands, Ca 1400 CE. By far the largest and finest sling we have ever seen! Of the type used by Inca warriors to throw stones at their enemies (including the Spanish conquerors) with deadly accuracy, this example however was made purely for ceremonial purposes. In browns, reds and golds, it is an exceptional example! The mounted size is 70" L by 4" H, the actual size is perhaps 2 feet longer.

Provenance: Ex-private Hawaii collection, ex Westermann collection acquired prior to 1960.
