Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca, ca. 1100 CE. Huge pottery urn used in burials in this region of what is now modern southwestern Colombia. Buff colored jar of slightly ovoid form tapering slightly from base to rim. Upper one third decorated one each side with human face, abstract facial features with large sweeping brows, upward slanted coffee-bean eyes, small open mouth with three large teeth and small jutting chin. Vessel further adorned with negative resist painted decorations of a type most commonly found in Narino pottery. Two strap handles. Size: 25.25" W x 17" H (64.1 cm x 43.2 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
