Description:

Pre-Columbian, Chancay culture, Peru, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An endearing bi-chrome earthenware egg-shape bodied effigy vessel, the figure's head depicted on the neck with bulging coffee-bean shaped eyes, a protruding nose, large round ear ornaments, a chocolate brown mask over his eyes, and tattoos and/or a beard adorning its mouth and cheeks - all beneath the conical crown/headdress with applied ridges on the concave, cup-shaped mouth of the vessel. The figure holds a small offering kero (cup) in both hands extending from long applied, coil-made arms in front of his chest. He dons a meticulously incised (cross-hatched) beaded pectoral, and all limbs and facial features are delineated in rich chocolate brown pigment on a creamy white ground. Size: 10.25" in diameter x 19.75" H (26 cm x 50.2 cm)
