Description:

East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A fascinating wooden cart wheel from a large ox cart, with a thick wooden boxing/hub for sliding onto an axle. The wheel is heavy and solid, rather than spoked, and represents a millennia-old traditional technology in China - from the magnificent carts found in the tombs of the ancient emperors to the farm workers of the twentieth century. Size: 36.75" W x 38.5" H (93.3 cm x 97.8 cm)
