Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Huari (Wari) culture, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. This polychromatic textile fragment is comprised of tightly-woven fibers in black, teal, gold, crimson, aqua, and cream hues. The composition is comprised of outer bands of abstract zoomorphic figures which surround an inner section of abstract designs meant to resemble animals or other zoomorphic beings. Mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing. Size: 8" L x 6" W (20.3 cm x 15.2 cm).

Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia from 1971 to 1972
