Pre-Columbian, southern Peru, Huari (Wari) culture, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A very cute pottery bridge spouted vessel in the form of a "fierce" jaguar. Jaguars were both revered and feared by many of the South American ancient cultures and are frequently seen in their art. Lower section comprises the entire head of the jaguar with painted toothy smile, large almond-shaped eyes and raised spotted ears. Size: 7.5" W x 7.25" H (19 cm x 18.4 cm)
