Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Huari (Wari), ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A spooky pottery skull effigy vessel likely depicting a trophy head with a fabulously gruesome visage comprised of bulging eyes beneath narrowed brows, a bony nose, prominent cheekbones, a protruding chin, and a wide mouth with sharp, jagged teeth - could he be growling or grinning? Enveloped in an orange slip with black and beige features, the haunting vessel presents an ovoid body that curves gently inward to an annular rim above a deep basin, all sitting upon a round yet stable base. Size: 4.8" Diameter x 6" H (12.2 cm x 15.2 cm)
