Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Huari/Wari, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A wood carving of a stylized male figure standing on an integral base with delineated legs, arms to his sides, an oversized head portraying a dramatic abstract visage, and conical headdress with a cavity in the top. The surface is painted in hues of white, gray, and black and the wood underneath shows wonderful evidence of age. This was perhaps an ornate lime powder container, the headdress serving as a bowl.
