Description:

Leah Garcia Nampeyo (Native American, Hopi-Tewa, 1928-1974). A polychrome pottery vessel created and signed on the bottom by Leah Nampeyo, the granddaughter of famed potter Nampeyo of Hano (1859-1942), and the daughter of Fannie Nampeyo. The piece is hand coiled and polished smooth using traditional techniques, and the motifs are inspired by prehistoric pottery found at the archaeological site of Sikyatki, located on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. This revival style emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Nampeyo of Hano is celebrated for reviving and expanding the ancient style of pottery, which her descendants have carried on. Leah Nampeyo learned the craft under the guidance of her grandmother and mother. Size: 9" Diameter x 6" H (22.9 cm x 15.2 cm)
