Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Hopi, ca. 1950s to 1960s CE. A hand-carved and painted racing kachina figure depicting Kokopelli Mana, the female companion to Kokopelli. She stands on a round base, adorned in a traditional tunic, cloth cape, with yarn hair, and holds a yarn and leather bundle in one hand. Her outstretched hand makes a suggestive gesture associated with copulation. An attached paper tag from the 2nd Mesa Hopi Arts & Crafts organization identifies the kachina as "Kokopelli Mana" and the artist as "Bobby Quochytewa." In Hopi tradition, kachinas are spirit beings representing elements of the natural world, serving as intermediaries between humans and the divine. Racing kachinas, like Kokopelli Mana, are often connected to fertility, agricultural success, and the seasonal cycle. In particular, foot races can symbolize the physical and spiritual endurance needed for a successful harvest, as well as a demonstration of strength and vitality. Size: 3.75" W x 11" H (9.5 cm x 27.9 cm)
