Description:

Ancient Near East, Holy Land or the Levant, Deir Sammit, Hebron, Late Bronze Age, ca. 1500 to 1250 BCE. A wonderful wheel-thrown pottery jar presenting an applied discoid base and thick walls that spread outwards to a lipped rim above a deep basin. Adorned in hues of sienna and black on a cream-colored ground, the intriguing vessel displays an elaborate painted and incised designs, such as a bull, a large bird, and a pair of standing figures, all below a border of abstract geometric motifs. Intriguingly, the jar has been inscribed with 2 indecipherable words in an Ancient Greek dialect along the rim. Size: 10.5" in diameter x 11.25" H (26.7 cm x 28.6 cm)
