Description:

Near East, Holy Land, Judea, ca. 300 CE. A fascinating terracotta stamp - the rectangular face of which is incised with the image of a menorah with horizontal striations above and below - with vertical striations adorning the bordering sides. A lateral perforation through the handle was created for suspension. The menorah was historically used by Moses in the sanctuary he established in the wilderness and later in the famous Temple of Jerusalem. Today, a nine-lamp variation of the menorah is traditionally used for the observance of Chanukah (Hanukah). A wonderful piece of Judaica bearing the likeness of a symbol of Judaism that originated in ancient times. Size: 2.25" L x 2.5" H (5.7 cm x 6.4 cm)
