Description:

Ancient Near East, Holy Land / the Levant, Iron Age II, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A hand-built pottery vessel for straining out larger pieces of flavoring material from potable liquids like wine or beer. The vessel is defined by a concave circular base, a piriform body with a shallow indentation denoting the neck base, a protruding channel spout with six straining perforations at its base, a flared rim, and an arching loop handle joining neck to body. The vessel is coated in faded red and tan pigment. Size: 4.3" W x 5.875" H (10.9 cm x 14.9 cm).

  • Condition: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with light restoration, resurfacing, and earthen stabilization material along break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to foot, body, spout, and handle, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and faint traces of original pigmentation throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
