Near East/Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, Heraclius with Heraclius Constantine, ca. 610 to 641 CE. Gold solidus. Obverse: Crowned and draped facing busts of Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine; cross above. Reverse: Cross potent set upon three steps; I to right; in exergue, CONOB. Heraclius reorganized and strengthened the imperial administration and the imperial armies but a the same time lost Syria, Palestine, Egypt, and Byzantine Mesopotamia to the Arab Muslims.
