Description:

Greece, Hellenistic, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A finely modeled head of a youthful Eros, the Greek god of sexual attraction and desire (his Roman counterpart being Cupid) and the son of Aphrodite (Venus), upon a black wooden socle numbered 130. His visage is quite captivating with finely delineated curly coiffure, dreamy almond-shaped eyes, a naturalistic nose, slightly parted lips, and softly-contoured cheeks. Traces of white and pink pigment remain on the surface. Size: 2.125" H (5.4 cm); 2.875" H (7.3 cm) on included socle.

Provenance: acquired in Falls Church, Virginia, USA in 2014

  • Condition: This head is a section from a larger piece. Normal surface wear with a few old scuffs/abrasions. Still a wonderful piece with nice root marks as well as traces of white and pink pigment gracing the surface.
