Description:

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A beautiful, mold-formed terracotta statuette of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, passion, and femininity. She stands nude atop a tiered rectangular plinth with her right leg extended, her head looking slightly to the left, and her raised arms holding the ends of a thin veil. Incised almond eyes, a petite nose, and full lips define her sensitive countenance, and locks of wavy hair frame her delicate head. Her pubis is covered by one of the tails of Ichthyes, a pair of fish deities that aided in Aphrodite's journey to the shore shortly after her birth at sea. After successfully guiding her to the shore, Aphrodite rewarded the twin fish by placing them in the night sky as the constellation Pisces. Size: 3.5" W x 9.4" H (8.9 cm x 23.9 cm).
