Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Classical World, Hellenistic to Roman, ca. 2nd century BCE to 2nd century CE. Finely cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process, a leaded bronze deer presenting a forward-facing visage with perky ears and a pronounced snout as well as a muscular body with well-modeled contours and a perky curled tail. Though there are some losses to the lower legs, the body does seem to lean forward as if this deer is sprinting ahead. In the Classical world, the deer was associated with our favorite deity - Artemis (Roman Diana) - goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, and the moon. Size: 3.25" L x 0.625" W x 2.75" H (8.3 cm x 1.6 cm x 7 cm); 3.125" H (7.9 cm) on included custom stand.
