Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic, ca. 4th century BCE. A mold-made terracotta votive figure depicting an idealized, nude male youth standing in contrapposto (demonstrating quite an elegant weight shift) upon a square plinth, and draped with a himation (a cloak or mantle worn by both Greek men and women) that cascades over his shoulders. There are nice remains or red pigment gracing the surface. Figures like this would have been taken into the temples and placed as votive offerings. Size: 6.75" H (17.1 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private collection of Dr. G.S, Nuremberg, ex-Hans Piehler (1874-1961)
