Description:

Greek, Macedonia, ca. 1st century BCE. Truly one of the finest pieces of ancient jewelry we have seen from this region. From Macedonia - home of Alexander the Great, but ruled at this time by the Romans, an almost pure gold ring (tested on our XRF at 98% pure) of slightly oval form, flat table in which an agate and white cameo was set. The cameo shows a beautiful portrait of a lady in profile, her features in high relief, her hair in ringlets down her cheek, possibly a bow tied at the rear. Size: 1" W x 1" H (2.5 cm x 2.5 cm), and measures a US size 6-1/4, weighing 8.7 grams.
