Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Ixtlan del Rio, ca 100 BCE to 250 CE. A musical terracotta percussionist adorned in a style distinct to the Ixtlan del Rio variety of Nayarit figures. The figure is shown standing behind his large drum, wearing a headband, ear and nose ornaments, large crescent-shaped pectoral, and armbands, with both hands beating his striped drum. His face and left arm show remains of black tattoo marks. Drum and figure are painted in red slip with cream-colored details. A sweet example from the ancients of West Mexico. Size: 3.5" W x 6" H (8.9 cm x 15.2 cm)
