Description:

Bonnie Halsey-Dutton (American, Contemporary). "The Big Horn Medicine Wheel" oil on panel, 2012. Signed and dated on lower right. A magnificent oil painting in a custom wood frame by Bonnie Halsey-Dutton who writes, "Sitting on the summit of Medicine Mountain in the Big Horn Mountain range in Wyoming, this spectacular and mysterious rock formation can be found. Called the Medicine Wheel, the true origin and culture responsible for creating it has been lost to time. Yet, it remains a sacred site: a place for vision quests, ritual and prayer. 'Medicine' in this instance refers to a source of spiritual power. It may have served as an astrological tool, as spokes and cairns align for the Summer Solstice." Size (painting): 12" L x 36" W (30.5 cm x 91.4 cm) Size (frame): 13" L x 36.8" W (33 cm x 93.5 cm)

Bonnie Halsey-Dutton was born and raised in South Dakota and is inspired by the local cultures where she resides as well as their history. She is both a professional visual artist and a fine arts educator, holding a PhD in Art History and Education from the University of Arizona. Bonnie Halsey-Dutton exhibits her artwork both nationally and internationally, and also teaches art education workshops at home and abroad.
